Utah Barn Wedding

I have been to some really wonderful weddings this year, but this one has to be my favorite!! What a beautiful and unique wedding! Ok, I'm biased- this is my daughter's wedding! We had the greatest wedding professionals to help us pull this off! I could write a whole blog on each of these great companies - well as a matter of fact I think I will... soon! I learned a ton going through this process as the mother of the bride. So I'll tell you all the inside scoop from a mothers point of view!  I need to say that Natalie is a peacemaker, so there wasn't too much drama. Dang! But since I am in the industry I had some great ideas, I thought... but ultimately I let Natalie make the final decisions as to what she wanted for HER wedding. I was not going to be accused of being a Momzilla!

I have to explain, my love struck daughter decided to have a 9 week engagement! What were they thinking?! I won't get into that...  Natalie had been dating Trent for 20 months (yes she was counting). She was ecstatic to have found "The man of her dreams!"

There was so much to do and keep track of. I needed budgets, checklists and timelines and I had a hard time keeping all of this straight. I'm the type of person who likes to write everything down to help me remember. The sticky notes were starting to drive me crazy, so I created my own system. This organizer is now available to you as the Pink Wedding Planner

In the process of planning the wedding, the first thing I asked Natalie was to make a list of her top three priorities. Her number one priority without even thinking was her dress, second priority--her dress, third--her dress. Obviously she wanted the perfect dress, so we went to The Perfect Dress. Everyone at the store was awesome to work with and the final outcome was Natalie had the dress of her dreams! It was a Maggie Sottero Wedding dress that she chose- the Ambrosia.

Like most girls Natalie had spent years planning her wedding long before she was engaged. She wanted a BARN WEDDING at her grandma's barn- as you can see this is no ordinary barn. She had the theme of limes and lemons which went along with the color scheme- yellow and green. Now we had the dress, the venue, the theme-- this was all starting to come together nicely. Time to get the invitations ordered! Mike Bailey helped Natalie design a fun invitation...

Natalie decided to have the family dinner and the reception the day before the wedding. This made it so fun to divide it up into two days! We looked at BrideAccess.com weather to see what the temperature was going to be on the April 21 and 22. It turned out to be cool, but beautiful. For the family dinner we had Goodwood BBQ- Natalie's favorite. She wanted cake and ice cream to feed her guests so we called Leatherby's and ordered 6 ice cream flavors and they do all the rest! Natalie chose Wedding Cakes by Dawna to make her wedding cake. I absolutely loved Natalie's Wedding cake! Diamond Rental brought everything from tables, chairs and linens to the barn and picked it all up the next day. Easy! Busath Photography was amazing with Miyo Strong behind the camera. I wasn't going to let Natalie make the same mistake I did and not hire a videographer. We let her choose the videographer and she loved Chris McClain's style- fun! My other strong suggestion was to have an old fashioned car. Of course we called Sam at Something Vintage Something Blue and he brought Dazee to the barn and Princess to the ceremony- everyone loved it!  The entertainment was the photobooth from All Occasions Photobooth. That was so fun! It was a beautiful Utah Wedding in Pleasant Grove and downtown Salt Lake City.

Here are the pics of how it turned out...

I learned a lot helping coordinate my own daugthers wedding. It ended up being Natalie's wedding she wanted and it was perfectly wonderful!

About the Editor, Marcie's Wedding

I LOVE MY OFFICE !  (Until the snow starts to fall!)

Hi. I'm Marcie, the Editor of BrideAccess.com.  I have always loved writing and have blogged personally for a few years now. I started because my life turned upside down and it was easier to blog then answer emotional phone calls. Then I found out I really LOVE blogging-it is a great way to communicate for me. So when this chance came up to blog for one of the happiest times in a persons life and for an amazing company, there was NO WAY I was going to pass that up!!

I feel like my story the past few years is like a Cinderella story-- starts out with a tragedy and ends up happily ever after!  In 2008 I was living my life like everyone else I thought- I was married with 6 kids, owned my little business, cooked, did laundry, drove my kids everywhere and worked out religiously every day.  Then comes July 30, my husband goes hiking - falls, and never comes home again. Instantly my life was like a bad dream. I thought this happens to people on the news, not to people I know-- certainly not to me and my family.  The next few months I felt like I was in one of those Christmas snowballs that are turned upside down and then watching the snow fall on top of me and not knowing which way is up. I’m not sure how I got through it all except I knew I had to be happy and positive each day for my kids. I had to be the one to show them that we were going to be okay, we adapt and change with whatever comes our way. I can thank my mom for always saying, “look for the good”. I also had years of gym and yoga classes at Treehouse Athletic Club that taught me life lessons and that I can do hard things. Those years of daily words of encouragement really pulled me through. The time I put in each day has not only helped me lead a healthy physical life, but healthy mentally and emotionally. Gosh I got off on my fitness talk- sorry, back to my story...

Two of my younger children would come home from school and say they had a friend in their class that was going through the same thing they were - except they had lost their mom. Well, we became friends with this cute family and started hanging out - having dinners together, swimming, movies, going to the gym, and even vacations. It was fun for all of us to have someone to talk to about everyday life without a mom/dad. For months this went on and we became best friends. I remember on Valentines Day I was on a date with someone else and couldn’t stop thinking about the dad of this family. This was the first time that I thought, “I could really like this guy more than just a friend!” My heart changed that day and never went back. It was so easy to fall in love with Matt- we had an emotional bond from the beginning. For months we dated with and without the families tagging along! In the summer our families were in Newport beach for a vacation. Matt surprised me one night by taking me on a walk along the beach and getting down on his knee and proposing to me. I was happier than I had ever been! I felt like Cinderella- I was trying to do everything by myself and barely hanging on and now my Prince Charming came along and I get to be married! My children get to have a dad again! This man was the one for me and I knew it more than I had known anything before. Miracles happen!

I wanted to get married ASAP (like yesterday), but there was a lot to do! Matt and I planned that 090909 we would be married. About 90 days was all I had to plan for the best event ever! The days seemed to go by so fast to plan this special day,  but in some ways so slow- I couldn’t wait to be married! Even though this was a second marriage for both of us, we still wanted a real wedding and wanted it like a big party. It really was a celebration of life and that we found each other!

Planning the wedding,--well I will just put it out there -I am a very organized person but it was a huge task to keep it all together.  I had sticky notes all over my office with things I was supposed to do, professionals to contact, great ideas and all kinds of stuff. I wanted to spend time with Matt but I was running all over the city. I looked at websites and tried to find help in this process. I had heard about BrideAccess.com and this was my first chance to try it out. It helped me a lot- this is how I found my amazing professionals. What I really could have used is the Pink Wedding Planner!

I went to Mary's Bridal to find my wedding gown. I loved how they took such good care of me and weren't pushy. They let me try on dress after dress and helped me make a final decision. I found a dress that I was crazy about! It was formal and romantic.  Their alterations lady was amazing and had it right after just one fitting! She and my friends helped me decide that altering it to have sleeves, like I had planned, just didn't fit the style and wouldn't look good. I was happy with it and I felt like a queen.

Matt and I decided to have our wedding and reception at Thanksgiving Point. It was like an all inclusive resort and I didn’t have to plan for very much. I thought finding bridesmaid dresses was the hardest part of the whole planning process.

Finally the day arrived! It was a busy day and I couldn't wait to just get to the Reception Center.  I thought this was so funny- There was an escape hatch in the Bride's room! Just in case I guess!

I love the words I heard, “You may kiss the bride!”. That meant that all my planning was worth it and finally I was where I wanted to be!  Everything turned out perfect.

The best part of the day was definitely our dance. Matt and I had taken dance lessons from Andrea Hale at Quickstep Dance. She has been on Dancing with the Stars and was amazing. We took lessons for about 6 weeks and the last 2 times she had our children come with us and she taught them part of the dance so they came in through part of the song. It turned out so fun and amazing and brought us all together.

Now the part of the day that I would have changed if I could go back-- I wish I would have hired a videographer!! Dang it! I am still regretting that decision to this day. We had a family member film the dance, but it is not the same quality, not even in the same realm of having a professional do it. Ahh I’m still kicking myself. Ok stop, enough already!

Oh, I can’t forget one other thing I was so happy that we did. We hired a DJ-- Stretch.  He kept things fun and on schedule. I thought it was cool that he met with us a few days before and asked us the time schedule, what songs we liked and had planned for the first dance, family dance, etc and what songs we didn’t want. I didn’t want a line so when one would start to form he would swoop us away. Our first dance song was "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts- I'm pretty sure he wrote that song for us!

Robin at BrideAccess suggested I talk to D’Andrew International Photographer because he said I would like his style. I really did - he's a little edgy like me! So that's who we chose to take our pics on our wedding day. He was incredible. I still love looking at those pictures! He was the last part of the wedding we hired and I’m sure glad we did!

Now we have been married 2 years and I love it! What a journey we have been on. I wake up each morning grateful to be married and alive! I hug my husband and kids tight each day realizing you never know what's going to happen in this life and I try to live with no regrets. I'm smelling the roses along the way and live life to the fullest- because the edge is where the view is best!

Lucky me- Now I get to find other wedding inspirations and show them to you.  I think I just might have the happiest job on earth...   XOXO, Marcie

4 Things To Complete Your Wedding Day Bridal Style

Four Things to Complete Your Wedding Day Bridal Style by Taylor Made Wedding Events

Every bride wants to look fantastically gorgeous on their wedding day and almost every bride, has a budget. Often, brides feel it’s a no brainer to cut out hiring a professional to do her hair and makeup, skimp out on wearing jewelry (other than the ring) or create their own bouquet or not have one, especially for bridal photos.

The mentality is “I’ve been doing my own make up since I was 12, I can do it on my wedding day, and save money” With so many brides opting to take this route, as a planner, I felt it my responsibility to share what I see as a result of brides doing their own hair and makeup on a wedding day and offer four things to complete your wedding day bridal style.

Here are two “before” photos of two brides.  This is them without makeup, hair done, or jewelry. Taylor Made Taylor Made

Here is a photo of how the brides have done their own hair and makeup on their wedding day. They look great but notice how the look feels plain and incomplete because the makeup is everyday styled, as with the hair and there are no jewelry accents.

Now we are going to use the professionals...

Here are those same two brides with professionally done hair, makeup and jewelry additions. What a difference!

As you can see, the difference is huge! Both brides are beautiful but with the magic of a professional, and a few accessories, they change from gorgeous girl to super model bride!

So with those photos in mind, (and you should always keep your photos in mind because they will remain after the day is done and over)here are the four things to help you look your very best on your big day.

  1. Hire a professional to do your hair. A professional hair stylist knows how to keep your hair looking great, and staying in place for your wedding day and bridal photos.  They also can suggest styles that work best for your face shape and hair texture, something that maybe you hadn’t considered.  Whenever I have my hair professionally styled, I always feel like such a rock star, and I can never pull off that style when I try on my own, so another great reason to hire a pro is their work induces a confidence that you may not have otherwise on your big day.  You want to look spectacular and you want to know it!
  1. Hire a professional makeup artist.  This professional can bring out your best features; hide minor flaws and having you walking out the door looking like a super model!  Many makeup artists offer color and test run consults to show you how you would look on your special day. Makeup artists also take into consideration if your wedding is outdoors or inside. Makeup for outdoors sometimes needs to be a bit darker so your features don’t get lost in the sun and in photos.  A professional also uses makeup such as primer, which allows your make up to last all day and night long, without having to re-apply. A professional also doesn’t cake on the makeup… you leave feeling as though your face is make-up free but you look prettier than ever.
  1. Find the perfect jewelry.  Simple but lovely jewelry can complete your bridal look without going over the top.  Depending on your dress neckline, you may not need a necklace but earrings and a bracelet are just right to complete you look. Or maybe a simple statement necklace is the way to go.  Always take into consideration that you do not have to be covered in jewelry or have super dramatic makeup to look great. Some jewelry stores have employees who are fantastic at helping you find just what you are looking for. You can go in with a photo of you in your dress and they’ll be able to help you decide which jewelry to use (necklace, earrings, bracelets, hair pieces, etc...) and find jewelry pieces that will compliment your skin tone and wedding colors.
  1. Don’t forget the bouquet! Colorful flowers can add that perfect pop of color that brings out your eyes or the faint green in your hand picked jewelry.  Hire a professional florist to do your bouquet and for your bridals, be sure to have a bouquet that is the same size as the one you will have on your special day. You don’t want to remember how the Costco flowers you put together died halfway through your photos and wedding or how you had a small bouquet in photos but your actual wedding day bouquet was twice the size. Your bridals bouquet that is most photographed and ten years down the road, you will remember this bouquet.

I’ve worked with too many brides, where we’ve focused on creating a fantastic wedding only to have the bride arrive not looking her best or having bridal photos she doesn’t like because she looks plain. My job as a planner is to help you along your wedding planning process and part of that includes helping everything look perfect, including you! So I hope you are inspired and happy planning! --Taylor
