Utah Barn Wedding

I have been to some really wonderful weddings this year, but this one has to be my favorite!! What a beautiful and unique wedding! Ok, I'm biased- this is my daughter's wedding! We had the greatest wedding professionals to help us pull this off! I could write a whole blog on each of these great companies - well as a matter of fact I think I will... soon! I learned a ton going through this process as the mother of the bride. So I'll tell you all the inside scoop from a mothers point of view!  I need to say that Natalie is a peacemaker, so there wasn't too much drama. Dang! But since I am in the industry I had some great ideas, I thought... but ultimately I let Natalie make the final decisions as to what she wanted for HER wedding. I was not going to be accused of being a Momzilla!

I have to explain, my love struck daughter decided to have a 9 week engagement! What were they thinking?! I won't get into that...  Natalie had been dating Trent for 20 months (yes she was counting). She was ecstatic to have found "The man of her dreams!"

There was so much to do and keep track of. I needed budgets, checklists and timelines and I had a hard time keeping all of this straight. I'm the type of person who likes to write everything down to help me remember. The sticky notes were starting to drive me crazy, so I created my own system. This organizer is now available to you as the Pink Wedding Planner

In the process of planning the wedding, the first thing I asked Natalie was to make a list of her top three priorities. Her number one priority without even thinking was her dress, second priority--her dress, third--her dress. Obviously she wanted the perfect dress, so we went to The Perfect Dress. Everyone at the store was awesome to work with and the final outcome was Natalie had the dress of her dreams! It was a Maggie Sottero Wedding dress that she chose- the Ambrosia.

Like most girls Natalie had spent years planning her wedding long before she was engaged. She wanted a BARN WEDDING at her grandma's barn- as you can see this is no ordinary barn. She had the theme of limes and lemons which went along with the color scheme- yellow and green. Now we had the dress, the venue, the theme-- this was all starting to come together nicely. Time to get the invitations ordered! Mike Bailey helped Natalie design a fun invitation...

Natalie decided to have the family dinner and the reception the day before the wedding. This made it so fun to divide it up into two days! We looked at BrideAccess.com weather to see what the temperature was going to be on the April 21 and 22. It turned out to be cool, but beautiful. For the family dinner we had Goodwood BBQ- Natalie's favorite. She wanted cake and ice cream to feed her guests so we called Leatherby's and ordered 6 ice cream flavors and they do all the rest! Natalie chose Wedding Cakes by Dawna to make her wedding cake. I absolutely loved Natalie's Wedding cake! Diamond Rental brought everything from tables, chairs and linens to the barn and picked it all up the next day. Easy! Busath Photography was amazing with Miyo Strong behind the camera. I wasn't going to let Natalie make the same mistake I did and not hire a videographer. We let her choose the videographer and she loved Chris McClain's style- fun! My other strong suggestion was to have an old fashioned car. Of course we called Sam at Something Vintage Something Blue and he brought Dazee to the barn and Princess to the ceremony- everyone loved it!  The entertainment was the photobooth from All Occasions Photobooth. That was so fun! It was a beautiful Utah Wedding in Pleasant Grove and downtown Salt Lake City.

Here are the pics of how it turned out...

I learned a lot helping coordinate my own daugthers wedding. It ended up being Natalie's wedding she wanted and it was perfectly wonderful!

How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Color Palette

How to choose a perfect color palette

This information comes from my friends at CandyDirect.com...

Choosing a color scheme for an event is one of the most important steps in planning a wedding or event. Colors are powerful tools, you see. They carry meaning and convey messages, which are both critical to event planning. For instance, you certainly can’t throw a Disney Frozen party without using the signature blue, white, and purple.

There’s a reason why certain pictures on Pinterest make us re-pin, and certain color combinations evoke particular feelings…there’s a science behind colors. Seriously, it’s called color psychology. People study colors, test them, even “create” them for branding purposes.

Picking a color scheme is a very involved process, especially for wedding and event planners. No one wants to be a copycat and choose from a list of color combinations, but it’s totally acceptable to get your inspiration from different things you see on Pinterest and create your own masterpiece. We’ve put together a few tips for choosing a color scheme that fits you and your wedding or party.

Set The Mood

When it comes to your wedding, you want to create a particular mood for your guests so that they’re “transported” into your dream. Do you want to recreate the royal weddings you dreamed about as a child, or do you envision a casual, rustic outdoor event?

Whatever mood you’re trying to achieve for your wedding, think about the time of day your wedding will take place, as well as the season and weather. You’ve heard that color affects mood, especially in the case of decor and design. Soft colors will evoke a romantic, sweet feeling while deep colors might evoke a royal, classic mood.

Consider the Venue

Your ideal color scheme might not be a good fit for your venue. See the two venues above? The one on the right is best suited for rustic weddings, with exposed ceiling beams and bronze chandeliers. The venue on the left, however, is an outdoor space with white flowing curtains and bejeweled lighting; that makes it perfect for a romantic or glamorous event. So, consider the space: evaluate it from floor to ceiling. Is there carpet? Are there dramatic window coverings? What’s the lighting like?

If you’ve already chosen your venue, you probably have a good idea of what you want your special day to look like. If you’re still looking at potential venues, however, pay close attention to everything from the architecture to the lighting. Most of the time, the venue will let you know if they can switch out things like lighting and curtains.

When In Doubt, Look To Nature

If you’re having a difficult time creating your own unique color palette, look to nature. We made this color palette using a stock photo of a rock formation. There is an infinite amount of color combinations in nature, all you have to do is look for something that inspires you.

For example, did you go to Ireland a few years ago and shed a few tears at the beauty of the landscape? You can use colors to evoke the same type of feelings at your wedding. Perhaps a floral pattern in nature prompted you to pull over and take a picture on the side of the road. If you’re planning an outdoor wedding for the fall, take a day to go exploring in a national forest or other nature reserve.

Know Your Color Themes

We’ve touched on the basics of color combinations in our post about setting up candy buffets, but we’re going to revisit it. There are 3 main color combinations used in event planning and they are:

Monochromatic

Monochromatic colors consist of multiple shades or tints of the same hue.

Analogous

Analogous colors are next to one another on the color wheel. They provide more contrast than monochromatic colors and are relatively easy to select.

Complementary

Complementary colors are usually across from one another on the color wheel. When combined, they produce either black or white.

There are also sub-combinations like triadic and split complementary, if you want to dig deeper into the wonderful world of color wheel science.
